Vision loss from glaucoma is permanent, but it is not inevitable. Progression often occurs without pain or apparent symptoms, leading some clinicians to label the disease “the silent thief of sight.” Most people don’t realize they have glaucoma until significant, irreversible vision loss has already occurred. That makes early detection especially critical as routine eye exams can catch warning signs and access to timely treatment can slow further damage.
